Terms of Service

Effective date: March 29, 2026 · Last updated: March 29, 2026

1. What StoryLab Is

StoryLab (“the Platform”) is operated by StoryLab, Inc. (“we,” “us,” “our”). We provide a marketplace where teachers create AI coaching agents built on their teaching methodologies, and students access those agents for personalized coaching. The Platform includes the teacher agent builder, student coaching interface (/lab), live video sessions, teacher storefronts, and related tools.

2. Eligibility

Teachers: You must be at least 18 years old to create a teacher account and build an AI agent on StoryLab.

Students: Students under 18 must have verifiable parental or guardian consent before using the Platform. By creating a student account for a minor, a parent or guardian represents that they have reviewed these Terms and our Privacy Policyand consent to their child’s use of the Platform, including interaction with AI coaching agents.

Students under 13 may not use StoryLab. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information during registration and to update it if it changes. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Teacher-Specific Terms

4.1 Agent Ownership

When you use the StoryLab agent builder, the resulting AI agent, including the compiled configuration, system prompts, behavioral constraints, student type taxonomies, and move taxonomies, is owned by StoryLab. You retain ownership of your underlying teaching knowledge, methodology, and expertise. You are free to teach elsewhere, use your methodology independently, and describe your teaching philosophy in any context. What you cannot do is export, replicate, or reverse-engineer the specific agent configuration generated by the Platform.

4.2 License to Your Content

By submitting content to the agent builder (including responses to builder questions, uploaded materials, session transcripts, and feedback), you grant StoryLab a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, modify, and incorporate that content into the Platform, including to improve AI models, train platform systems, and enhance other teachers’ agents. This license survives account termination.

4.3 Revenue and Payments

Teachers earn revenue when students subscribe to their AI agent or book sessions. Revenue splits are as described on the Platform (currently 80% teacher / 20% platform). Payments are processed through Stripe Connect. You are responsible for providing accurate payment information and for any tax obligations arising from your earnings. We may modify the revenue split with 30 days’ written notice.

4.4 Content Standards

Your teaching methodology, as expressed through your agent, must not contain content that is harmful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate for the student audience, which may include minors. You are solely responsible for the accuracy, quality, and appropriateness of the teaching methodology you provide. StoryLab applies platform-level safety constraints to every agent (including prohibitions on writing for students, giving answers directly, and labeling students), but these do not replace your responsibility for the underlying pedagogy.

4.5 Working with Minors

You acknowledge that students using your AI agent or attending live sessions may be minors (under 18). You agree to conduct all interactions in a manner appropriate for minors and to comply with all applicable laws regarding contact with minors. For live video sessions, StoryLab records sessions with participant consent for quality and safety purposes.

5. Student-Specific Terms

5.1 AI Coaching Is Not a Substitute

AI agents on StoryLab are built on real teachers’ methodologies, but they are AI systems, not human teachers. They may make errors, misunderstand context, or provide guidance that is not appropriate for your specific situation. AI coaching does not replace professional educational services, counseling, or therapy. Use your own judgment.

5.2 Your Content

Essays, drafts, messages, and other content you submit to the Platform remain yours. You grant StoryLab a license to use this content to provide the coaching service (including sending it to AI models for analysis) and to improve the Platform. We will not sell your essays or share them with third parties except as described in our Privacy Policy.

5.3 Academic Integrity

StoryLab agents are designed to coach, not to do your work for you. Platform constraints prevent agents from writing essays, drafting sentences, or providing finished answers. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of StoryLab complies with your school’s academic integrity policies.

6. Platform Safety Constraints

Every AI agent on StoryLab operates under non-negotiable platform constraints that cannot be overridden by teachers or students. These include: the agent will never write content for the student; the agent will never give the answer directly; the agent will not provide empty praise without evidence; the agent will not label students or assign identities; and the agent will respect student agency in creative decisions. These constraints are enforced at the platform level and are not configurable by individual teachers.

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or replicate AI agent configurations
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your qualifications
  • Submit content that is harmful, threatening, abusive, or inappropriate for minors
  • Interfere with the Platform’s operation or security
  • Use the Platform to generate content that violates academic integrity policies
  • Scrape, crawl, or automated-access the Platform without written permission

8. Data and Privacy

Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data. By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or for any reason with 30 days’ notice. Upon termination: teachers’ storefronts are unpublished; students lose access to agents; accrued but unpaid revenue will be paid within 60 days; and the licenses you granted to StoryLab survive termination.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT AI AGENTS WILL PROVIDE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR APPROPRIATE COACHING.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STORYLAB’S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO STORYLAB IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100. STORYLAB SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.

11. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform will be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You agree to waive your right to a jury trial and to participate in class action lawsuits. This arbitration agreement does not prevent either party from seeking injunctive relief in court for intellectual property disputes.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Platform at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
