Terms of Service

Effective July 11, 2026 · Last updated July 11, 2026

1. Who We Are

StoryLab is operated by IvyStoryLab LLC (“StoryLab,” “we,” “us,” “our”). We provide one-on-one writing and humanities coaching for students of all ages, delivered in person or by video. Our programs span Humanities Foundations, Specialized Prep, and College Applications. Coaching is typically arranged as weekly meetings, billed in packages, with periodic updates to families. These Terms govern your use of our website and coaching services (together, the “Services”).

2. Eligibility & Parental Consent

You must be at least 18 years old to enter into this agreement, enroll a student, and be responsible for payment.

Many of our students are minors. A student under 18 participates only through a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms and our Privacy Policyon the student’s behalf and serves as the account and billing holder. By enrolling a minor, you represent that you are their parent or guardian and consent to their participation in the Services.

3. Accounts & Scheduling

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for all activity under your account. Sessions are scheduled by mutual arrangement. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give us as much notice as you reasonably can; cancellation and rescheduling details are provided at enrollment and on your invoices. We may decline, suspend, or end coaching that is disruptive, unsafe, or inconsistent with these Terms.

4. Fees, Packages & Payment

Coaching is billed in packages as described at the time of enrollment and on your invoices. Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor (Stripe); we do not store full card numbers. You are responsible for all fees and any applicable taxes. Package terms, including any refund or cancellation policy, are those disclosed to you at enrollment and control over anything general stated here. We may change our rates prospectively; changes do not affect a package you have already purchased.

5. How Coaching Works — and What It Is Not

Our coaches guide students to think, read, and write in their own voice. We coach; we do not do the student’s work for them. We do not write, ghostwrite, rewrite, or complete essays, applications, or assignments on a student’s behalf. Students are responsible for their own work, and families are responsible for ensuring that use of our Services complies with the academic-integrity and application policies of any school or program to which the student submits work.

Coaching is an educational service. It is not counseling, therapy, or a substitute for professional advice, and we do not guarantee admission to any school or any particular outcome.

6. Your Content

Essays, drafts, materials, and messages a student or family shares with us remain yours. You grant StoryLab a limited license to use that content solely to provide the Services — for example, so a student’s coach can read and respond to their work and prepare feedback and family updates. We will not sell your work or share it with third parties except as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Software & AI-Assisted Tools

We use software to run our practice, and some of it is AI-assisted — for example, tools that help us organize scheduling, draft session notes, and prepare updates for families. These tools support our coaches and staff; they do not replace the human coaching relationship, and coaching decisions rest with our people, not with automated systems.

8. Video Sessions & Recordings

Some sessions take place over video. Where we record a session, we do so with participant consent, for quality, safety, and to help prepare summaries for families. You may withdraw recording consent at any time by contacting us; withdrawing consent means future sessions will not be recorded.

9. Privacy

Your use of the Services is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. By using the Services, you consent to the practices described there.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services for any unlawful purpose;
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse our coaches, staff, or other families;
  • Misrepresent your identity, your relationship to a student, or a student’s work;
  • Interfere with the operation or security of our website or Services; or
  • Scrape, crawl, or access the Services by automated means without our written permission.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or end coaching if you violate these Terms, if continuing would be unsafe or inappropriate, or on reasonable notice. Any refund on ending a package is governed by the package terms disclosed at enrollment.

12. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE ANY ADMISSIONS RESULT OR OTHER SPECIFIC OUTCOME.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IVYSTORYLAB LLC’S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE SERVICES SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100. WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.

13. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Services will be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You and StoryLab waive the right to a jury trial and to participate in class actions. Either party may still seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual-property matters.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you — for example, by email or through our website — before they take effect. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
